Lourdes is a major destination for Roman Catholic pilgrims, who come from all over the world for the alleged miraculous healing from the hole water. The line to spring is packed with people in wheelchairs, on mobile stretchers, or otherwise sick. The population of the town is only around 15,000, but more than 5,000,0000 pilgrims and tourist come by every year, which explain the insane number of hotels, about 270 - the second highest density in France after Paris.
